The Basic Skills teaches the fundamentals of ice skating and provides the best foundation for recreational skating, figure skating and hockey. Six progressive levels introduce forward and backward skating, crossovers, stops, edges, and turns. Skaters will progress at their own rate and advance as skills are mastered.
Classes are provided one time per week on your selected day/time for 8 consecutive weeks unless noted. The date selected will be your first day of classes. Class prices include 8 weeks of instruction on the chosen day of the week as well as skate rental. Class sessions will be 30 minutes of instructional time and 10 minutes of independent practice.
Pre-Freeskate:This class is for skaters who have mastered all Basic levels and have progressed from Basic 6. Elements include backward crossovers to a backward outside edge glide (landing position), Backward outside edge to forward outside edge transition on circle, mohawk step sequence, one foot spin, mazurka jump, waltz jump.
Freeskate 1:This class is for skaters who have mastered Pre Freeskate. Elements include forward power stroking, basic forward outside and forward inside consecutive edges, backward outside three-turn, upright spin from back crossover entry, half flip and toe loop.
Freeskate 2:This class is for skaters who have mastered Freeskate 1. Elements include alternating forward and outside spirals on a continuous axis, basic backward outside and backward inside consecutive edges, backward inside three-turns, beginning back spin, half lutz jump, salchow jump.
Freeskate 3:This class is for skaters who have mastered Freeskate 2. Elements include alternating backward crossovers to back outside edges, alternating mohawk sequence, waltz three-turns, advanced back spin with free leg in crossed position, loop jump, waltz jump toe-loop jump or salchow toe-loop jump.
Freeskate 4:This class is for those skaters who have mastered Freeskate 3. Elements include forward power three-turns, forward upright spin to backward upright spin, sit spin, half loop jump, flip jump.
Freeskate 5:This class is for those skaters who have mastered Freeskate 4. Elements include backward power three-turns, five step mohawk sequence, camel spin, waltz jump loop jump combo, lutz jump.
Freeskate 6:This class is for those skaters who have mastered Freeskate 5. Elements include forward power pulls, choreographic step sequence, camel-sit spin, layback spin, waltz jump half loop salchow jump sequence, beginning axel.
